Dictionary of Indian Scientists aims to record all possible facts
about the achievements of ancient to contemporary scientists of
India. Remarkable scientific achievements of hundreds of brilliant
human mind have been gathered herein quite comprehensively.
The book profiles 2064 biographies in the field of astronomy, mathematics,
physics, chemistry, biology and engineering. Information regarding
selected scientists are mostly taken from printed resources in order
to maintain authenticity of data. Publications of the national level
scientific organisations, learned societies and associations such
as Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, National Research
Laboratories, national level research institutions, related ministeries,
Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Sciences, Indian
Science Congress Association, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore,
etc., have been thoroughly scanned for inputs.
For the purpose of collection of biographical data, a standard questionnaire
proforma of international standard was prepared, printed and distributed.
Modern scientists who figure herein are those who have won national
or international awards, or those who made some pioneering contribution
to the development of science in India. Portrait photographs of
about 1000 scientists are included in the book in order to enhance
the appeal and usefulness of the collection. The book has been published
under the 'Low Cost Subsidized Edition' of National Book Trust,
India.
